Have you ever heard the saying, “Girls just want to have Fun!” Or. “Boys will be Boys!”
What about “Bullies get away with Murder!” Of course you don’t hear the latter. You don’t because people turn a blind eye, especially if it’s not happening to them! You’re required to go to school. Not that you choose to go, you must. You want to do what everyone in school is doing – go to class, play at recess, eat lunch, join clubs and maybe even play sports. But, what do you do when you can’t walk down the hallway without someone sticking their foot out to trip you? What do you do when you sit down to eat and food is thrown at you or someone pours some of their drink in your food? What do you do when you go to gym to change and you are teased for everything from the color of your underwear to style of your socks? Why are they even looking?!!
As smart as you are, your grades start to fail, because you can’t concentrate. You just don’t bother to eating lunch, it isn’t worth the risk. You don’t try out for the team, you know you’ll never get passed the ball.
Teachers say come tell me when these things happen. But, they were sitting right there as it was going on. Principals say well, teachers have 30 students, it’s hard for them to watch everybody.
You eventually leave school it’s taking it’s toll. Your self-esteem is shattered, your confidence is non-existent, your outgoing personality now reduced to hiding behind your computer screen. You can’t sleep anymore. You’d really rather not even leave the house. The person you would have been, will now be never! The bullies lives, as good as ever!
Bullies aren’t just in schools, they aren’t just kids. They can be anywhere from spouses to siblings to supervisors to leaders.
More rules are needed. Laws need to be written! And the people who care need to quit hiding behind fear.
Who knows? One day the miracle you or yours might so desperately need might just be with who you treated so miserably!
