ADRENAL FATIGUE
When we think of hormones, we think of three types:
Estrogen: Called the female hormone. Interestingly there are three types of estrogen. Depending on where you are in your life your body produces different types of estrogen to help maintain balance:
Estradiol – present between puberty and menopause
Estrona – present during the same years, but in lesser degree than estradiol
Estroil – produced to support pregnancy
Or.
Progesterone: Plays and active role in your physical and psychological well-being. It has a calming effect on the brain, helps bone density and supports cardiovascular health, to name a few.
Or.
Testosterone: Primarily called the male hormone. In men it is thought to regulate bone mass, fat distribution, muscle mass and production of red blood cells.
But the hormones that most people don’t think about are the ones produced by the adrenal glands – including adrenaline which is responsible for the “fight or flight response” and the steroids aldosterone and cortisol.
With the fast pace of life and the high stress that goes with it, people can become run down and burned out and left wondering why! Adrenal fatigue could be the problem.
Adrenal fatigue is not easily diagnosed through bloodwork but, can be quickly identified through a salvia test.
Symptoms are many, but some of the main ones are:
Insomnia
Feeling tired even after sleeping
Trouble focusing
Sugar and or salt cravings
Dizziness or lightheadedness from sudden movement
Hormonal imbalance
Decreased immune system
If left unattended, Adrenal Fatigue can become severe.
